UNDA with Common Boston: Defining the Spirit of Boston’s Innovation District

The City of Boston declared the South Boston Waterfront an “Innovation District,” with the strategy of creating clusters of innovative people, providing flexible housing options for flexible lifestyles, and designing public space and programming to “foster an innovative ecosystem.” We hope you’ll join us for a panel discussion about Boston’s new Innovation District as we imagine how to create a truly innovative district – one that sets an example of sustainable, equitable, and inspiring design for not only Boston but for the world.

Registration for both events is required, please click the links below.

City/Build 2011

February 9th, 2011   •   No Comments

City/Build is excited to be working at Brighton High School.  16 students from Ms. O’Tooles Honors physics class will be participating in activities hoping to introduce them to the fields of design, engineering and construction. The program aims to open high school students to new career paths and make them more aware of their urban environments and the impact they can have on their neighborhoods.

The class is off to a great start, with students learning about basic architectural drawings as well as understanding scaling techniques. They have been working on measuring and drawing a scaled version of their physics classroom. In the upcoming weeks, students will be exposed to working professionals, construction sites and many hands on activities that hope to engage them in the engineering, design and construction fields. Check back for updates on the class!

Blast from the Past

Check out the first known photo of David Silverman and Dan Connolly together. Dan participated in the City/Build program while he attended the Boston Latin Academy from 1997-2001. While participating in the program, he was mentored by City/Build volunteer David, who was working for MIT as an architect on the Ray and Maria Stata Center. Dan is one of several City/Build Alumni who have pursued a career in architecture, and the connections he made while at City/Build proved fruitful, as he now works for David at map-lab!
